Are Wall Murals Hard to Install? Let's Talk About It.

Installing a wall mural can transform any room, infusing it with personality and style. However, the question of whether wall murals are hard to install is common among homeowners, interior designers and DIY enthusiasts alike. Let's break it down for you and chat about the process of wall mural installation, offering tips and insights to take the guessing game out of your experience.

Understanding Wall Murals

Before diving into the installation process, it's essential to understand what wall murals are. Wall murals are large-scale artworks or photographs printed on wallpaper material, designed to cover an entire wall, creating a dramatic visual impact.

Prep! Key to a Smooth Installation

The first step towards a successful wall mural installation is preparation. This involves choosing the right type of mural for your space, measuring your wall accurately, and ensuring the wall surface is smooth (absolutely no texture), clean, and primed if necessary. The type of mural material can also affect the ease of installation. *We offer 3 types that can be found on our FAQ page.

DIY Installation: Is It Really That Hard?

The truth is, installing a wall mural doesn't have to be a daunting task. With advancements in mural technology, many murals now come with peel-and-stick backings, which significantly simplifies the installation process. Here are the general steps involved:

  1. Wall Preparation: As mentioned, start with a clean, smooth surface. Remove any peeling paint, patch holes, and consider using a primer for best results.

  2. Measure and Plan: Accurately measure your wall and plan the layout of your mural. At Anewall, we can custom design your mural to fit your wall perfectly.

  3. Peel and Stick: For peel-and-stick murals, carefully start at the top, peeling the backing away as you smooth the mural onto the wall, using a squeegee to remove air bubbles.

  4. Traditional & Pre Pasted Murals: For traditional paste-the-wall murals, you'll need to apply wallpaper paste to the wall or the back of the mural. For pre pasted wall murals you will just need to activate the dry glue on the back of the panels with water. Then, carefully align the panels and smooth them out as you go.

Professional Installation: When to Consider It

If you're not comfortable with DIY projects, or if you're dealing with a particularly large or complex mural, professional installation might be the best route. Professionals have the experience, tools, and techniques to ensure a flawless finish, especially for high-end murals that require precise alignment and handling. This is an expensive product and we don't want to fumble at the finish line.
